Stage One is dedicated to supporting new producers and productions in order to sustain the future of quality commercial theatre in this country. As a small charity dedicated to developing talent for a big industry, Stage One offers practical help for those with ambitions to become a creative entrepreneur.
Stage One is run by a Council of industry experts that donate their skills, time and knowledge for free to support the next generation of Commercial Theatre Producers. The continued support given by Stage One is vital in maintaining the standard of creative excellence on which the commercial theatre in the regions and West End thrives.
Stage One runs a structured training programme to develop and support new producers which includes:
Bursaries - Financial assistance of up to £15,000 towards the cost of a production, coupled with an industry mentor
Apprentice Scheme - A unique hands on internship where new producers work in an established producer's office for a year
Start Up Fund – The ‘next step solution’ for the most promising new producers coming out of Stage One’s training programmes. The Start Up Fund will be launched in March 2010; successful applicants will receive up to £25,000 towards the cost of producing one of their first substantial commercial productions.
Investment - Stage One also invests in new commercial theatre productions and recent investments include The Little Dog Laughed, Calendar Girls, Legally Blonde and Enron.
Stage One is a registered charity part funded by Society of London Theatre. Our work would not be possible without the generous support of many individuals, trusts and companies.
