Multi-coloured sheep, tutu-wearing ears of corn and a singing camel were all on stage at the Adelphi last night. Oh, and Lee Mead… Read more
With a crash of drums and a flash of light Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has returned to the West End with its dazzling coat of many colours and Lee Mead in the leading role.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's colourful retelling of the famous biblical story about Joseph, his uncanny dream-deciphering abilities and his flashy jacket, is filled with popular songs, including Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do.
Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the story of Joseph, son of Jacob and one of 12 brothers. As his father's favourite, his jealous brothers turn against him and sell him to passing merchants. This is just the start of an adventure that will see him rise to greatness, from slavery to becoming the Pharaoh’s right hand man. Full of drama, action and fun Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an exciting musical for all the family.
Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was written as a short piece for Colet Court School in Hammersmith and first performed in March 1968. Following extra performances it was recorded as an album, but did not receive a professional production until 1972 when it was staged at the Edinburgh Festival.
Lee Mead, the lead of this new production of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, was chosen by public vote through the BBC's reality television programme Any Dream Will Do.
Jenna Lee James, who plays the Narrator, was the runner up in the Voice Of Musical Theatre 2005 and has previously appeared in We Will Rock You in the West End, playing the roles of Meatloaf and Scaramouche.
Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat also features The Carmel Thomas Youth Singers as the onstage children's choir.
Lee Mead will be on holiday from 3-11 November when the part of Joseph will be played by an understudy.
