Join one of the Society of London Theatre's Theatreland Walking Tours and learn about the history of some of the West End's best loved theatres around Leicester Square and Covent Garden. Along the way you will hear of flamboyant Actor Managers, variety artistes, theatre ghosts, and the story of London theatre from Shakespeare to the contemporary. In addition to admiring the architecture of our larger theatres, you will also move away from the beaten track delving into some hidden alleyways to discover some lesser known theatre treasures and gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the area's rich cultural history.
The dates for 2010 are Sunday 25 April (SOLD OUT), Sunday 16 May*, Sunday 30 May, Sunday 13 June, Sunday 27 June, Sunday 11 July, Sunday 15 August * and Sunday 24 October.
All tours begin at 14:30 and last approximately two hours.
*The tours on 16 May and 15 August will be sign-interpreted by Stephen Hudson.
Please note that the Theatreland Walking Tour does not involve backstage tours of any of the theatres and will go ahead if it rains.
The tour cost £9 per person and places are limited to 30 per tour so early booking is advisable. Every walker will also receive a free Theatreland postcard pack!
